The Hemlock Society USA was a national “right-to-die” organization founded by Derek Humphrey in 1980. In 2003 the national organization renamed itself Compassion in Dying and End of Life Choices. In 2005 it merged with other groups and is now called Compassion & Choices.
These people are so bent on death one would think their movement would have “died by suicide” by now. Why are they still here? Because they favor killing other people: advocating murder under the banners of “peaceful death with dignity” and “aid in dying.” That is their way to be hell bent on death and still have longevity.
Here is their compassion, according to their own words, “Q: If I live in a state with no law protecting aid in dying, should I move to Oregon or Washington? No; there are many options available to people across the nation, which an end-of-life counselor can explain to you. Compassion & Choices wants everyone with a terminal illness to have a peaceful death no matter which state they live in.” “Q: Where can I get the pill to end my life? This is the question we hear most often, and people ask it with many different things in mind. In certain cases a lethal dose of medication, prescribed by a physician and self-ingested, can be the best path to a gentle death. After a thorough conversation with you and perhaps your family, our counselors may provide information regarding medication and how to obtain it.”
Here are some of their compassionate achievements, “Oregon’s Death with Dignity law; 129 terminally ill Oregonians have used it to die peacefully.” “A bill developed by (C&C) designed to ensure that terminally-ill patients have access to information about a full range of end of life…passes in California. AB 2747, the Right to Know End-of-Life Options Act. On September 30, 2008, Gov. Schwarzenegger signs the Terminal Patients’ Right to Know End-of-Life Options Act, AB 2747.” “On November 4, 2008, Washington voters overwhelmingly approved I-1000 59% to 41%. Washington is the second state to Legalize Aid in Dying!”
“Montana District Court Judge Dorothy McCarter held in December 2008 that the Montana State Constitution protects a peaceful death with dignity making Montana the third state to provide its residents with legal Aid in Dying.” “Montana Supreme Court ruled in favor of the landmark case brought by (C&C) (Baxter v. Montana) affirming that it is not against public policy of the state… for a physician to provide aid in dying to a mentally competent, terminally ill individual.” (If someone is suicidal they are not mentally competent.)
“(C&C) calls on the Obama Administration to repeal last-minute regulations allowing denial of medical services based on health care worker religious beliefs.” Suicide, death with dignity, and aid in dying; the only compassion C&C offers is death. The peacefulness of such compassion is from the viewpoint of the executioner.
The Constitution Party of Wisconsin stands foursquare against euthanasia. You cannot have a “quality of life,” without life itself. Life, itself; is the Right to Life. Without the Right to Life, quality of life becomes a utilitarian, performance based excuse to end life, and thus your life and well-being is in constant jeopardy. Death has never improved a person’s health.
